So I've been doing a lot of posts lately I know, I'm just really excited to be blogging and keep getting ideas for posts! Anyways I just wanted to review two things I got from the Mac Philip Treacy collection, and I wanted to do it sooner rather than later because this collection will only be on the counter for another two weeks! If you read my blog or follow me on Instagram ( @caoimhehand) you'll come to realise that I am obsessed with Mac, particularly lipsticks and limited edition collections.
I wasn't super excited about this collection, mainly because it wasn't in limited edition packaging, but there were still some nice bits that I wanted to pick up. There were three lipsticks released:
No Faux Pas - Bright pink, matte
Cardinal - Deep red, satin
Hollywood Cerise - Muted Fuschia, satin
If you're a Mac fan you'll know that NFP was released as part of the Christmas 2014 Heirloom collection, it is a gorgeous pink but Mac bring out these kind of bright pink mattes a lot and I have too many already to have warranted getting NFP as well. Cardinal also just looked like an extremely dupe-able colour. So the only lipstick I could justify getting was Holywood Cerise, from the promo pictures it looked really unique, pulling a bit on the purple side.
So as you can see it matches my onesie really well hehe. But yeah it's just a really nice colour, it's bright but also muted enough for everyday wear I think. I love the satin formula from Mac and this lipstick is just really comfortable to wear. I do like this lipstick a lot but it's not as unique as I thought at first. It reminded me a lot of Macs Girl About Town and also of a Topshop lipstick in Fast Lane. I have swatched them all below and from top to bottom the lipsticks are: Fast Lane, Girl About Town, Hollywood Cerise.
So because Girl About Town is an Amplified finish it does look slightly different but all three are definitely in the same colour family. Hollywood Cerise is the most purple of the three, but in my opinion Fast Lane looks exactly the same when on the lips. Fast Lane is also more affordable, I'm not sure how much Topshop lipsticks are but they're somewhere around €12 and the quality is just as good as Mac.
Now the other thing I got from this collection was one of the 'highlighting powders'. I opted for the darker, champagne coloured one (Nude pink) because I read some reviews online and they recommended Blush pink for paler girls. I'm quite sallow and I've got very yellowy skin so I just didn't think the pinker one would suit. The main attraction of these powders is the beautiful silver sparkly detailing throughout it, it looks like tiny fireworks as seen in the promo picture below.
So when I got this I was super excited and just mesmerised by the shimmery goodness, but I was also dying to try it. So with a swift swoop of an Elizabeth Arden angled powder brush, I swatched it.. And much to my horror, all of the silver sparkles disappeared. Every single one. You can see in the first photo that while my powder is still embossed with the design, there is no silver to be seen. I didn't swatch it that heavily, so I was gutted at what happened. The remaining powder did have some shimmer in it, but not enough to show up on the skin in my opinion.
Anywho, tragedy aside I continued on and decided to try out the product on my face. Now, with this powder being marketed as a highlighter, one would imagine that it could be used as a typical highlighter (for me that would mean at the highest point of the cheekbones). That is not the case. As you can see in the swatch below this product really would be suited better as a bronzer or a blush
I did try to swatch this on my arm but it was unnoticeable and just blended in completely with my skin tone. I'm not really sure what else to say about it, on the right skin tone this might be really amazing but I was not impressed at all and 100% regret buying it. I do wish I had gotten Blush pink instead, I did not find that this product did anything special for the skin. It is in no way a highlighting product, and at best I may use it under the cheekbones or it also could be used as a dark, peachy blush on paler skin tones.
If any of you guys got the powder and have found a great way to use it please do let me know! The Mac Philip Treacy collection is still available in Brown Thomas online and in store for the next two weeks, the powders are €30 and the lipsticks are €19.50.
Thanks for reading you guys comments are welcome!
